Outdoor Lighting Options for Backyard Parties

The signs of summer are here: The weather’s getting a little warmer, the days are getting a little longer, and everyone is ready for a good backyard party. If you’re ready to host your own outdoor party this year, you have a number of things to do to prepare, from guest lists and invitations to food and decorations, but one party preparation task that often gets overlooked is ensuring that your backyard has optimal outdoor lighting for an evening party.

If you’re just planning one big backyard blow out this year, consider aligning your lighting plans with the party’s theme — tiki torches for a luau party, tealight lanterns for a romantic party under the stars, etc.

If you’re planning to have a couple of parties this summer or just want to make a longer-term lighting decision, consider investing in classic — but beautiful — lighting options for your backyard. Look around your yard for areas that could use a little extra light, such as around tables, walkways and areas where you expect people to congregate. While you’re looking around your yard, pay special attention to the areas you want to show off, such as your garden or a fountain. These areas deserve a little extra lighting so your guests notice the most beautiful parts of your property.

There are a huge variety of options for lighting up your backyard, but these are some of our favorites:

  1. Security lights - If you’re looking to really brighten up a certain area in your yard, LED security lights are a sure bet. These bright flood lights are a great way to ensure that a section of your lawn is adequately lit in the dark.
  2. Full cut off lights - Full cut offs are great for lighting up a gathering area or walkway to ensure your guests don’t trip once the sun goes down.
  3. LED rope lights - LED rope lights are great for illuminating the edges of a walkway, under an umbrella or anywhere else you want a little accent lighting.
